Miss You Madly

By Don Bowyer

This piece is the melancholy aria that Orpheus would sing after his beloved Eurydice leaves him.  As Orpheus is a trombonist, however, he plays instead of singing.  The first theme has very static harmonies, with an ostinato pattern in the cello.  The second theme has an agitated feel, with a canon in the woodwinds and long string melodies.  This composition is dedicated to Dr. Sue Kirkpatrick, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, in honor of her years of service to the College and to the Department of Music.  This piece was premiered at my faculty composition recital on September 8, 2007.  Click on the title to hear the music and follow the score for this piece (requires Shockwave Player).
